Rivers and Bridges

My research revolves around rivers, which affords artistic exploration of the intersection where humans and nature meet. The iconic bridges in this series both connect human communities and transform our rivers. By driving across, we see the river from a different perspective than when trapped on its banks.

Portland Oregon Bridges

The Willamette River flows through the heart of Portland, criss-crossed by a series of bridges that support trains, cars, bikers and pedestrians. This series was created for a show at the Guardino Gallery, in NE Portland. I took photos of each bridge while kayaking on the Willamette River, and combined those images with old maps to create these screenprinted glass collages.

Coastal Bridges

Highway 101 runs along the Oregon coast, crossing the coastal rivers over these iconic bridges. The photos used in this series are from old postcards. The outline of the river is overlaid on the bridges in mica.
